We understand that SEO- Search engine optimization is confusing and consistently changing. There are so many different ways to build up as well as hurt your SEO, sometimes it's a blur as to what you really need, and what you really need to avoid to be successful.
Businesses today fall into one of three options when it comes to digital awareness: entirely online, partially online, or only use their website to drive foot traffic to their brick and mortar store. No matter which one of these categories you fall into, being in good standing with Google is imperative.
The following Top 10 No-No's are more than likely hurting that good standing with Google, which will penalize you in having your online traffic decrease from lack of Google exposure. Keep in mind Google is constantly updating is SEO, so make sure you follow the Google Blog HERE for updates.
CONTENT IS KEY
Content is the foundation of your search engine ranking. Google uses the content on your pages in order to decide what sites are relevant based upon a Google search. Even if every page has a little bit of content no it, it may not be the RIGHT content, or may just not be enough. Content Marketing is a MUST HAVE for any business to achieve success.
EXCESSIVE SEARCH TERMS AND PAGES
While it's a good idea to create separate pages for specific relevant keywords, you need to avoid creating multiple pages with keywords in reverse. For example, "Doctor Dallas" and "Dallas Doctor" are not necessary. For a keyword to have it's own page, you need to have a specific reason for it, besides creating a broader size and contend load for your website. (Google will see through that).
COMPETITORS' SEO TACTICS
Not recreating the wheel is great advice, unless it's in regards to your SEO. By matching your competitors' SEO tactics, you are fighting an uphill battle. There tactics are working because they've been doing it most likely for a LOT longer and you more than likely will only come up second to that competitor. Also, the likelihood of you being able to recreate the exact SEO of your competitor is incredibly low and having that approach will not you anywhere near their ranking.
The BEST way is to build your own links using the right and allowable SEO tactics. This will take more time, but the end success is worth doing this the correct way.
SINGULAR LINK BUILDING
Many websites like to host guest bloggers, which is a great way to reach new audiences with a different type of content. However, this will not offer a new SEO buildup. Google loves to see new and diverse ideas and over time Google's algorithm will give less weight to the guest bloggers no matter how relevant and qualified the links are.
Make sure you keep your website always changing with new ways to build SEO with multiple ways of linking multi-dimensions versus singular links!
OVERDOING META-TAGS FOR SEO
Meta-tags are still important in the sense that it's what shows up under your link in a search results, but in regards to SEO Google hasn’t used meta-tags as a ranking factor in more than a decade.
Majority of web crawler algorithms exclusive use visible text when looking to provide rankings. They are not scanning your HTML to find hidden keywords in your meta-tags.
Just make sure you understand the difference!
Don't be scammer- Google will flag your website if caught, even if you see rankings improve for a short amount of time. You WILL get caught.
CO-OP SWAP LINKS
Doing some co-ops between other websites and companies is a great marketing tool and will help build your SEO- slightly.
While Google's algorithm is looking for links that look like endorsements, it also can tell which links are legitimate endorsements and which websites have just swapped for the appearance of endorsing. Just make sure you are being careful!
Mobile is Key. Today, over 80% rely on their mobile devices for information on a daily basis. If your website is not mobile responsive that is a major issue for your site! Google heavily favors websites that have mobile capabilities in mobile search, and even give them preferential treatment in desktop and laptop results due to that responsive capability due to a better user experience.
Just NEVER do this. It's read as a scam from a search engine's algorithm and 9.9 out of 10 times it will be banned.
COPY CAT CONTENT
Write your own content. Stealing content form another website and identical content is just a bad idea. Even if it's your own sites with different URLs- just don't copy and paste.
Search Engines rank content once, when duplicate content arrises, they will not rank it as opposed to figuring out what content is relevant to each individual site. They’re a waste of your time, and could be costing you customers! Learn more today at Info@Compass360Branding.com
Most business are focused on gaining as many followers as they can. A large quantity of consumers is great, but Quality of consumers is what they should be focused on. So how do you identify QUALITY consumers? Find the ring leaders: Influencer of targeted markets. Identifying the right influencers to become loyal followers will allow the type of marketing every company wants, but can't buy.
Due to this new focus, a number of trends have affected advertising and marketing. Firstly, traditional advertising, radio, television and magazines have become less effective in securing loyal influencers. Secondly, competition online has become fiercer driving paid search prices ever higher while depressing margins. These trends are putting pressure on Marketers and companies to look for new and authentic advertising alternatives to reach new customers in a more personalized way.
Influencer marketing is exactly what advertisers need to be looking into for finding the right campaign partners. Influencers are everyday people like you, the only difference is that on social media they are considered celebrities and experts in their particular market. Despite their success amongst their audience many of these influencers are finding it challenging to monetize their success. At the same time the to tap into an audience receptive to their message
So how do companies identify influencers for their brand? The three major metrics to look at when choosing influencers include: Relevance, Audience, and Engagement.
Is this influencer writing about your industry, topic, brand or service? The way most marketers begin this search is start by choosing influencers by industry or relevant keyword or set of keywords. One tool I highly recommend to determine relevance is Kred.
There are a number of factors that are important when it comes to audience. How large is the audience? Where is the audience located and how engaged is the audience in the message of the influencer and your brand. Through which social channel e.g. Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest etc. Through which medium e.g. video, text, graphics. One tool I highly recommend for identifying your audience is TweetReach.
Engagement of the Messages
How active are the recipients of in taking the message and sharing it in turn with their friends. How often do they share information and for how long does the message remain active or resonate in their social media stream.
There are a number of tools out there that allow you to identify influencers across these three metrics. A quick google search for each social media platform can help identify the right tool for you to use.

This past week I've had a lot of focus on non-profits looking to raise their online funding and donor acquisitions. I thought I would share some tips that we use in our Non-Profit Consultations to help them launch successful campaigns!
Tip 1: Go Mobile.
Society today is always on the go. If you want to attract online donors you have to have the process streamlined at their convenience- mobile. More people are using tablets and cell phones 3 times more than their computers, so ensuring the capability of your site to mobile devices is key.
Tip 2: Brand Brand Brand.
Your brand is your personality. You should think not only of what the message, and ultimate goal, is, but what words and images are you using to say it?
I always ask questions as below:
If you [company] were a space what would you look like?
If you [company] were a person, what clothes would you wear? and more.
Tip 3: Add Social Engagement.
This is one of the easiest ways to spread a grassroots campaign. Once someone makes an online donation, have it immediately have the ability to share via social media sites. This creates a community and bond between those who have donated, and builds awareness to those who would have interest, but haven't gone out of their way to find that donation button. Get exposure on the platforms that have become a regular part of everyday life in the most organic form possible.
These are only a few of our tips. If you have questions, or would like a consultation, please feel free to contact us at Info@Compass360Branding.com.
